International Congress "Profitable pig production"

Pig production which is one of the most rapidly developing branches of Ukraine’s economy has proved its great potential once more.

This time top-managers and specialists of leading Ukrainian companies gathered on June, 12 in SE «Ukrayinskyy Dim» in Kyiv to discuss urgent problems of the pig production during the International Congress «Profitable Pig Production 2009».

The Congress have become the first independent national-level event and united over 180 professionals among which are: pork producers, leading consultants, representatives of processing companies and commercial companies.

Ukraine seems to be condemned to become world leader in pork production as it is impossible to find such unique conditions in other countries. It was admitted for several times that our country has favorable natural and climatic conditions and prospective market with about 46 million potential consumers. Foreign lecturers continuously mentioned that nowadays no other country but Ukraine has such unique favorable conditions. And we have to use them otherwise this niche will be taken by international agricultural corporations like Smithfield (USA) with a herd of about 147 thousands sows which already has built farms in Poland and now has some investment plans concerning Ukraine.

Special attention was paid to such urgent topics as feeding, housing, veterinary and genetics. Among lecturers were Dr. Bill Close (UK), Karsten Dalby (Denmark), Richard Stein (Canada), Jan Veltkamp (the Netherlands), Heinz-Wilhelm Strubenhoff (Germany), Yuriy Sivov (Ukraine), Artur Loza (Ukraine), Vitaliy Piotrovich (Ukraine), Oleg Vorozhbitov (Ukraine).

Top-managers of «Vira 1» LTD, «Demis-Agro» LTD, «Danosha» (Denmark — Ukraine) shared with the audience their experience of doing successful business in Ukraine. All and sundry raised the question of professional consolidation of producers as that is the only way to compete with international agricultural corporations.
